Audiology Clinic

Audiology services are offered to all children enrolled in the School at Kelston Deaf Education Centre. The audiologist works within the specialist services team. This allows collaboration between different specialists along with the student's teacher to ensure the student's hearing needs are met.

The audiology clinic is located within the administration block at Kelston Deaf Education Centre. Students and their families are encouraged to make use of this service. Questions and concerns about hearing, hearing equipment or communication are welcomed by the audiologist. Students can be seen here for complete audiological evaluations, to monitor hearing and middle ear status and to fit new hearing aids as required.

All students are also monitored at school by the audiologist at least twice a year. The audiologist works with the student, their teacher, and other members of the specialist services team to determine FM candidacy, apply for funding and fit them as needed. It is our goal during 2012 to make the audiology services available as an out reach to students who are attending the satellite classes in North and South Auckland. The aim is to make the audiology service more accessible to all students enrolled in the School at KDEC, not just thosein West Auckland.

Students who have cochlear implants will need to be seen by the Northern Cochlear Implant team. However, we are able to monitor their external equipment and their hearing with the cochlear implant on. If problems arise we can prompt earlier appointment with the CI team.
