Nau mai haere mai
Ruamoko Marae, Kelston Deaf Education Centre

Ko Ruamoko,

Koropupu,

Ana te wai,

Ruana te whenau E!

It is Ruamoko,

Who makes the geysers burst,

The water boil,

Who makes even the Earth tremble!
Tena koutou katoa.

Ruamoko Marae hosted a number of powhiri occasions. They all contribute
something special to Ruamoko Marae. From our special Totara village whanau, 50th Jubilee
for KDEC, Sport Day regional students to a Poroporoaki for Reenie Hauraki. It was a time of
aroha for Reenie and special gifts were given to her (such as a native tree). Christine Miller (GSE)
and the Waitako Maori Deaf group attended.

In 2008 we were invited to send repesentatives to the Maori youth council, (Te Ropu Puawai)
and we had the privilege of hosting the Hui on Ruamoko Marae where our repesentatives
were presented. They were Wiremu Ellis and Dane Pou. Both students showed great
enthusiasm and may become an inspiration to the other members of the Maori youth council.
We hope this will lead to good things in the future for them and the Maori Deaf community.
