Resource Teachers of the Deaf are attached to 10 schools across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty area.

They work with children in mainstream early childhood centres and schools as far South as Turangi across to Optoki and the East Cape; Otorohanga and Te Kuiti in the West. We currently support children as far North as Coromandel and Franklin.

All 19 teachers in this region are trained Teachers of the Deaf and some have additional qualifications in counselling, early childhood education and fluency in NZSL.

Resource teachers work closely with the Advisers of Deaf Children to ascertain the resource needs across the area and to ensure that children with hearing loss are well supported in mainstream schools.

Applications for our service are reviewed in Week 6 of each school term. If you would like to refer a student for support please download the application form.
