The library provides books, serials, DVDs, e-resources, academic and curriculum resources, and also hands-on resources. The collection supports the learning, literacy, and language development needs of our Deaf and hearing impaired students. Our services can be accessed by our students and staff, family members of deaf young people, and adults in a deafness-related profession or field of study.
Qualified, experienced and committed Library staff are available Monday 12:30-4:00 and Friday 9:00-4:00 during term time, and during each school holiday. It is our pleasure and aim to assist our clients to find the ideal resource for their needs.
Of particular interest is our Deaf Culture collection. Housed within the main Library, this collection includes well over 1,000 text and DVD/Video resources relating to topics such as language access for Deaf people, parenting strategies, audiology, interpreting, Deaf history and biographies, and sign languages. The DVDs focus on learning NZSL, or they have content designed for a deaf audience. We also have many recordings of special events in KDEC’s calendar.
At KDEC Library we love to host special literacy-related events, such as NZSL storytelling and our popular annual author visit. Please refer to our newsletter for details of current competitions and upcoming events. For further information please contact the KDEC Librarians firstname.lastname@example.org
