Kelston Deaf Education Centre offers a specialist pre-school setting for children who are deaf and hearing a place to learn alongside each other. Our programme is based on the children’s strengths, interests and needs with a strong focus on developing communication skills using New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and/or English.
Delivered by trained teachers and Deaf role models, the programme encourages language development in natural interactions between adults and children aged 2 – 5 years. We believe that our programme operates at its best when we work in partnership with parents and other people involved with families. Sharing information about what happens in the home and the pre-school provides a strong basis for developing consistency in children’s lives.
We are open during the school terms, Monday to Friday with a variety of different session times between 8.30 am and 3.00 pm available. If you are interested in enrolling your child, please read the brochure to see if your child is eligible. For any further enrolment enquiries please contact the KDEC Pre-School manager, Charlene Irving: (09) 827 4859 [email protected]
