Welcome to Kelston Deaf Education Centre’s Provision for Senior Tu Kokiri students. This School department is situated at the Auckland Deaf Society in Central Auckland. Senior Students from Year 12 to Year 13+ (16 years and older) from all parts of KDEC’s wider operational scope may choose to attend. This post-secondary school programme is generally designed as a two year pathway, working towards life readiness into employment or continuing education at tertiary level. KDEC staff the provision with Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Associates and an Educational Interpreter. In addition to the full-time staff based in the provision, KDEC’s Specialist Services team regularly works with specific students. These specialists include the school psychologist, occupational and physiotherapist and speech language therapist. Students wellbeing needs are also met by regular visits from the KDEC School Counsellor. This Provision is a welcoming, modern and access-able learning environment
The students experience a variety of options, such as work experience, community engagement and tertiary taster courses. Each student develops an individualised programme, along with their teachers and parents that best meets their goal to be able to take the next step beyond school. A full range of co-curricular activities, camps and community linkages are also available.
All pathways allow each student to cover the five key competencies as set out in the NZ Curriculum and provide a positive foundation for success in life beyond school.
If you would like to arrange a visit with a view to enrolling please contact the Deputy Head of School, Margaret Carr: (09) 827 4859 firstname.lastname@example.org
